THe Writing Den: What is it?
The Writing Den is a creative writing club for children between the ages of 6 and 11 (school years 1 - 6.) It is not school, though as a qualified teacher, the activities I plan complement the school curriculum.
Why? What are the benefits?
Children are naturally playful, imaginative and creative. Yet, somewhere in childhood we often teach them to leave these qualities behind in favour of 'getting it right.' Many 11 year olds will understand how to write a sentence using fronted adverbials and relative clauses, yet their writing voice may have lost the zing it had when they were smaller.
The Writing Den benefits children by:
Encouraging a love of language, books and storytelling.
Building confidence in reluctant or hesitant writers.
Nurturing writing talent.
Providing a safe form of self expression.
Improving writing skills including spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Stimulating the imagination.
Establishing your child's unique voice, giving them the freedom to be bold and go wild with a pen.
My daughter loved it and asked if she was going back to The Writing Den tomorrow.
My son hated writing, yet he loves coming to The Writing Den.
Thank-you for inspiring him to want to write.
The workshops are fun and exciting.
I've learnt a lot.
